What If The Trap Remembered

What if the P-trap beneath the sink, curved to hold its small still water, wasn't blocking sewer gas but keeping a diary of everything that passed. Hair, coffee grounds, a wedding ring dropped in panic, the soap film of a hundred mornings. The water never fully leaves; it only accepts new water, mixing old testimony into new. Suppose the trap could be opened not with a wrench but with the right question, and what spilled out wasn't sludge but sequence: every hand that turned the tap, every argument overheard through the drain. The plumber unscrews the joint expecting clog. Instead, silence pours out, thick and patient, and settles on the tile floor like it has somewhere else to be.
