The Form That Approves Itself
Somewhere a stamp waits in a drawer, ink pad drying at its own pace. It exists to say yes without asking why, to press a shape onto paper and call the matter settled. No official reads the words beneath it anymore; the stamp has become the argument. Consider what it means to manufacture consent from rubber and pressure, to let a mark stand in for judgment. The clerk who applies it believes she is only finishing a task. The stamp believes nothing, and that is precisely its authority. Somewhere a form was denied once, then approved the second time, unchanged, because someone finally struck it hard enough with the right small tool.
